Under a free trade policy, goods and services can be bought and sold across international borders with little or no government tariffs, quotas, subsidies, or prohibitions to inhibit their exchange. Like the United States, most industrialized nations negotiate “ free trade agreements ,” or FTAs with other nations which determine the tariffs, duties, and subsidies the countries can impose on their imports and exports.
