Micro cap stocks that tend to have explosive moves are ones that have a “low float.” This just means that the number of outstanding shares is relatively small, typically anything less than 10M shares is a good place to start. This is because due to the large number of float, the liquidity can absorb any big moves. Therefore, while it is common to see 30% or 40% move in a low float stock, this is not very often found with high float stocks. A high float stock, as the name suggests is one that has a high number of freely tradeable stocks. The best low float stocks are those companies with a small market capitalization with the smallest number of shares available to be traded, and generally have a low share price. Such stocks are often volatile, but can make explosive upside moves resulting in large gains in a short period of time. In addition to this, low float stocks are usually micro caps or very small caps; this adds additional risk for anyone considering holding them long term. In my experience, many of them are not even investable but they can become very tradeable under the right circumstances.
